Blood may appear on the toilet paper after wiping, in the toilet bowl, or on the stool (poo) itself. While this can have many causes, it should always be checked by your GP.
Changes to what is normal for you. This could include going to the toilet more or less often, changes in stool consistency (looser, harder, or pellet-like), or feeling like your bowel doesn’t fully empty. Ongoing changes should be discussed with your GP.
Pain or discomfort in your tummy that doesn’t go away or keeps coming back. This could feel like cramping, a dull ache, or general discomfort. If it persists, it’s important to have it checked by your GP.
A lump or swelling in your tummy that you can feel, or bloating that doesn’t go away. While this can have a range of causes, it should be assessed by your GP.
Ongoing tiredness that doesn’t improve with rest. This can sometimes be linked to low iron levels (anaemia), which may need to be investigated with a blood test.
Losing weight without trying or without changes to your diet or activity levels. If this is happening, it’s important to speak with your GP to understand the cause.
