Key achievements

Over the years, Bowel Cancer New Zealand has been at the forefront of change for bowel cancer outcomes in New Zealand.

National Bowel Screening Programme

Bowel Cancer New Zealand played a leading advocacy role in establishing the National Bowel Screening Programme, which is now available to all New Zealanders aged 58-74. Screening detects cancer early when treatment is most effective.

Screening age expansion

After years of campaigning, the screening programme expanded to include ages 58-74 nationwide from March 2026 – a significant win for early detection.

Free nurse support line

Our 0800 226 968 support line connects people affected by bowel cancer with specialist nurses for free, confidential support and guidance.

Research investment

Bowel Cancer New Zealand has funded over $1 million in bowel cancer research in New Zealand, supporting studies into prevention, treatment, and outcomes.

PHARMAC advocacy

Ongoing campaigns to improve access to unfunded bowel cancer drugs, ensuring people diagnosed have access to the treatments they need.

Awareness campaigns

From Blue June to Move Your Butt, our campaigns raise awareness of symptoms, screening, and the importance of early detection across the country.
